Yates, McLamb & Weyher, L.L.P. was established in 1983 by four
founding partners who had all previously practiced together in a
"general practice" law firm. They shared a vision for a new firm
focused exclusively on civil defense litigation and appellate
practice, including professional, products and general liability
cases. The firm has now grown from 4 to 28 lawyers and employs a
staff of 32, numbers which continue to increase. Lawyers in the

years, the firm's focus has never changed. Our mission is to

Today, the firm's professional liability practice includes
medical, nursing home, medical device, pharmaceutical and legal
liability cases. Our lawyers have defended, among other
professionals, hospitals, nursing homes, cardiologists, general
surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, internists,
otolaryngologists, gastroenterologists, nephrologists,
ophthalmologists, radiologists, intensivists, obstetricians,
urologists, gynecologists, psychiatrists, oncologists,
pediatricians, anesthesiologists, family practitioners,
physician's assistants, nurse practitioners and anesthetists,
registered nurses, dentists, and pharmacists in cases throughout
North Carolina, including a large number of cases involving
catastrophic injury. In addition, the firm represents medical
professionals before licensing boards through all stages of
investigations. The firm employs a number of lawyers who are
also licensed health care providers, including a physician and
two registered nurses, allowing us to approach
cases with a special insight. Legal liability cases handled by
the firm have included litigation, real estate, corporate,
securities and family practice law.
Products liability,
construction litigation, general liability and insurance
coverage are also significant areas of the firm's practice. Our
lawyers have defended corporations in cases involving massive
plant explosion and fires as well as other catastrophic
accidents. They have represented manufacturers in product recall
matters and other cases involving claims of defective products.
The firm has extensive experience representing contractors,
architects and engineers in construction defect claims arising
out of both commercial and residential construction. This
experience also includes cases involving allegations of mold
infestation, lead paint exposure as well as other toxic torts.
Our general liability practice is broad in scope and encompasses
automobile negligence (including UM/UIM), roadway construction
liability, premises liability, school board liability,
libel/slander, assault and battery (including sexual abuse) and
environmental liability. The firm also advises clients on all
aspects of insurance coverage issues under commercial general
liability, commercial property, builder's risk, homeowners,
automobile, motorcycle, errors and omissions, and professional
liability policies.
The lawyers at Yates, McLamb & Weyher are dedicated to our
clients' success but are also committed to the betterment of our
profession and community. Our attorneys are active in local and
state bar organizations, including the North Carolina State Bar
Council (including the current Vice President), the North Carolina Bar Association (including the past
Chair and current Council members of the Litigation Section),
Wake County Bar Association (including a past President of the
Wake County Bar), Wake County Young Lawyers, 10th Judicial
District Bar Candidate Interview Committee, and North Carolina
Association Defense Attorneys, among others. They are frequent
speakers at meetings of medical societies, hospitals, risk
management and trade associations, insurance carriers, and bar
and other legal associations. The firm is a member of the
Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. A number of firm attorneys handle
pro bono matters and participate in bar association public
service committees. The firm and its attorneys actively support
a number of local charities through financial contributions and
service as volunteers.
