Barry Sidney Cobb was born
in Greenville, North Carolina, and grew up in Bertie County.
He attended UNC on a Morehead Scholarship, and then
graduated with Honors from UNC Law School. After graduation,
Mr. Cobb served as law clerk to the Honorable Terrence W.
Boyle, United States District Judge for the Eastern District
of North Carolina. His practice concentrates in the
representation of physicians, hospitals and nursing homes in
medical malpractice matters. He has also provided risk
management consulting services for hospital clients and has
represented physicians, dentists, and pharmacists before
their respective
North Carolina licensing boards. Mr. Cobb is a certified
mediator.
Mr. Cobb has taught seminars in nursing home negligence,
risk management for hospitals and long term care
facilities, advanced negotiation and advocacy in
mediation, legal issues for nurse practitioners, and
effective legal writing. His committee service includes
acting as a member of the Local Rules Committee for the
Eastern District of North Carolina, the Magistrate Judge
Merit Selection Committee for the Eastern District of
North Carolina, the Medico-Legal Liaison Committee of the
North Carolina Bar Association, and Ethics Co-Chair of the
Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Mr. Cobb is a current member of the North Carolina
Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Defense
Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute, the American
Board of Trial Advocates, the American Society of Hospital
Risk Managers, and the North Carolina Supreme Court
Historical Society. He serves as secretary and Council
member of the North Carolina Bar Association Litigation
Section. Mr. Cobb was listed as one of the 27 defense
lawyers in the medical malpractice section of the North
Carolina Super Lawyers 2008 magazine.1
In 2008, Mr. Cobb
was selected as one of North Carolina's "Legal Elite"
in the category of Litigation as published in
Business North Carolina Magazine.2
Selection for this distinction is based on ballots sent to
every lawyer licensed by the State Bar living in North
Carolina.
He lives in Raleigh with his wife and
their two children. The Cobbs are active members of Hudson
Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Cobb is a partner in the
firm.
