Mr.
Thompson's professional time is largely devoted to
defending physicians and other attorneys accused
of professional malpractice. Since joining the firm, he
has worked with health care providers in the fields of
anesthesiology, bariatric & general surgery, dentistry,
dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine,
gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, internal medicine,
neurology, neurosurgery, nursing, orthopedics,
pharmacology, physical/occupational/speech therapy,
obstetrics, physiatry, psychiatry, radiology, radiation
oncology and urology as well as a variety of health care
providers in skilled and long-term care facilities. He has
worked with other attorneys who maintain residential and
commercial real estate practices, who serve as corporate
counsel to various business entities, and with attorneys
who specialize in pursuing personal injury claims. He also
has diverse general civil litigation experience with
claims ranging from intentional torts such as
municipality embezzlement and arson to negligence claims
such as motor vehicle accidents and personal injury claims
alleging State liquor law (ABC) violations. He works
closely with professionals requiring assistance with North
Carolina State licensing board matters, students, in
connection with university honor code investigations, and
is a frequent lecturer on risk-management topics to local
social organizations. At the firm, he is a member of the
Technology Committee and closely follows trends and
requirements relating to electronic discovery
(e-discovery).
Mr.
Thompson is a lifelong native of Raleigh with a network of
family, friends, colleagues and clients across North
Carolina. After obtaining his undergraduate degree and
prior to attending law school, he served as a member of
the faculty at
Broughton High School. While at Campbell Law, he worked as
a research assistant for Professor Thomas P. Anderson
(Civil Procedure), competed as a member (and later,
captain) of Campbell's National Trial Team, wrote for the
United States Supreme Court section of the Campbell Law
Observer, represented Campbell as a member of the Susie
Sharp Inn of Court and served three years as an elected
justice of the Campbell Law Honor Court. He also
co-chaired the Student Bar Association Honor Code Revision
Committee, co-chaired the Prospective Student On-Campus
Interview Program, competed in the Intramural Moot Court
competition, finished as a semi-finalist in the local ABA
Client Counseling competition, received the Book Award
for Dean Willis Whichard's Judicial Process course,
graduated with a concentration in Civil Litigation,
and was inducted into the national Order of Barristers. He
continues to volunteer with law school projects and speaks
annually to
the school's Second Year Trial Advocacy class on
the development and use of exhibits in litigation.
Outside the office, Mr. Thompson may be found on area
soccer fields officiating matches. He holds current U.S.
Soccer Federation, N.C. High School Athletic Association
and National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association
certifications and has refereed approximately a thousand
matches since first getting certified in 1992. He and his
wife enjoy annual gatherings of friends and family,
Carolina sports, Italian cuisine, traveling on North
Carolina's Scenic Byways & Greenways, photography, and
historic preservation. They have a strong relationship
with the UNC-Chapel Hill Children's Hospital and the North
Carolina Museum of Art.

to review and evaluate upcoming reporting requirements
relating to civil settlements or claims paid to
Medicare-eligible claimants.

recent developments regarding the North Carolina Medical
Board including proposed physician claims settlement
