Heather R.
Wilson is from Thomasville, North Carolina. She earned a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of
North Carolina at Charlotte in 1997, and graduated from the
Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University
in 2001. While at Campbell, Ms. Wilson served as Secretary
and class representative of the Student Bar Association. She
was the recipient of three American Jurisprudence Book
Awards for top performance in her class. Additionally, she
finished in first place and received the award of top
oralist in the Norman Adrian Wiggins Intramural Moot Court
Competition, and was a member of the Spong Invitational Moot
Court Team, which finished sixth-place in the nation. Ms.
Wilson was also a member of the ABA National Moot Court Team
and the National Trial Team. Upon graduation, she was
inducted into the Order of Barristers, an honorary
organization recognizing excellence in written and oral
advocacy skills.
Ms. Wilson
is a trial attorney. She joined Yates, McLamb & Weyher as an
associate in 2007. Prior to that, Ms. Wilson was an
associate (2001-2006) and later a partner (2007) at the law
firm of Patterson, Dilthey, Clay, Bryson & Anderson. Over
the years, Ms. Wilson’s law practice has included defense of
all types of personal injury claims (motor vehicle
negligence, premises liability, products liability,
professional liability, construction litigation, and
workers’ compensation) as well as insurance coverage actions
and appellate work. Ms. Wilson now primarily focuses her
practice on defending physicians, pharmacists, nurses,
hospitals, nursing homes and other professionals in all
aspects of professional malpractice claims, including:
pre-suit claims, litigation, alternative dispute resolution,
subpoena matters, and appeals. Ms. Wilson is admitted to
practice in State and Federal Courts in North Carolina, as
well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and North
Carolina Supreme Court.
Ms. Wilson
serves as an adjunct professor at Campbell
University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, where she
teaches courtroom skills to trial advocacy students.
She also volunteers time at the law school to judge moot
court and mock trial competitions, and to speak with trial
advocacy students about use of exhibits during trial. Ms.
Wilson is a member of the Wake County Bar Association and
Defense Research Institute. She has substantial involvement
in the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys where
she serves as the vice-chair of the Medical Malpractice
Group of that organization. She works with the chair of the
group to respond to legislative matters pertinent to the
Medical Malpractice Group and to plan continuing education
programs.
Ms. Wilson
lives in Raleigh with her husband, Dr. Chris Wilson, and
their children, Noah and Eleanor. In her free time, Ms.
Wilson enjoys traveling, reading, fitness and sporting
events.
