Williams was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1977 and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and received his Juris Doctor from Campbell University in 2002. While in law school, he studied at the University College of London and represented his school in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria. He was the Case Law Editor of the Campbell Law Observer, the only student-run legal newspaper of its kind in the country, and was named to the Order of Barristers. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Williams joined Yates, McLamb & Weyher, L.L.P. in the fall of 2002. Mr. Williams is a partner with the firm and serves on its recruiting committee. His primary areas of practice include construction litigation, products liability, premises liability, automobile liability, subrogation, insurance coverage and business litigation. He has extensive experience in defending claims involving alleged catastrophic injury, death, or substantial property damage. He also has experience with a wide array of construction claims including roadway construction, roof collapses, air compressor explosions, bridge collapses, overhead power line electrocutions, utility pole failures, and demolition. He is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in North Carolina and has trial experience with both defense and subrogation cases. He is a frequent lecturer for both insurance companies and corporations on various topics including loss control practices, accident investigations, current trends in the law, and other various general liability issues. Mr. Williams is a AV-rated attorney with Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Williams is a member of the American, North Carolina and Wake County Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA). He is very active in the NCADA where he currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Construction Practice Group. He formerly served for two years as Co-Chair of the NCADA’s Communications Committee where he contributed to, among other things, the creation of the NCADA’s monthly email newsletter known as The Resource and also served on the NCADA’s Membership Committee for four years. He served as Co-Chair for the Tenth Judicial District Bar Candidate Interview Committee from 2006 to 2009. In 2010, the Raleigh City Council appointed Mr. Williams to serve on the Raleigh Board of Adjustment, and he recently accepted another two year appointment to that Board. Mr. Williams also serves on the steering committee for the North Carolina Museum of History’s Young Associates; the Young Associates’ function is to promote awareness of this cultural institution. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, Mr. Williams was selected for inclusion in North Carolina Super Lawyers1 “Rising Stars” edition (a category for attorneys 40 years old and younger) by peer evaluation in the insurance coverage practice area. No more than 2.5 percent of North Carolina attorneys are named to the Rising Stars list. Mr. Williams and his wife, Kelly, live in Raleigh with their twin boys, Hayes and Parker. In their spare time, they enjoy spending time with their family, the outdoors, exercising together, and Carolina sporting events.
