Bo Thompson’s professional time is largely devoted to defending physicians and other attorneys accused of professional malpractice.  On the medical side, he has worked with health care providers in the fields of Anesthesiology, Bariatric and General Surgery, Dentistry, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Nursing, Obstetrics, Oncology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy, Physiatry, Psychiatry, Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Urology, as well as a variety of health care providers in skilled and long-term care facilities.  As part of his legal malpractice defense experience, he has worked with attorneys who maintain residential and commercial real estate practices, who serve as corporate counsel to various business entities, and with attorneys who specialize in pursuing personal injury and business loss claims.

In addition to professional liability defense work, Bo has diverse general civil litigation experience with claims ranging from intentional torts such as municipality embezzlement and arson to fraud claims and claims alleging unfair or deceptive trade practices.  He also assists professionals requiring assistance with North Carolina licensing board investigations and students in connection with university honor code investigations.

Bo was named a “Rising Star” defense lawyer in the medical malpractice practice area of the North Carolina Super Lawyers1 magazine in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.  He was in the inaugural class of lawyers selected in 2010 as an “Emerging Legal Leader” by Lawyers Weekly.  In 2011 and 2012, he was voted as one of North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” in the “Young Guns” (under 40) category, in a survey conducted by Business North Carolina2 magazine.  Selection for this distinction is based upon ballots sent to every lawyer licensed by the State Bar living in North Carolina.

Mr. Thompson is a lifelong native of North Carolina with family, friends, colleagues, and clients across the state.  After obtaining his undergraduate degree, and prior to attending law school, he served as a member of the Faculty at Broughton High School in Raleigh.  Then, at Campbell Law, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Thomas P. Anderson (Civil Procedure), competed as a captain of Campbell’s National Trial Team, wrote for the United States Supreme Court section of the Campbell Law Observer, represented Campbell as a member of the Susie Sharp Inn of Court and served three years as an elected justice of the Campbell Law School Honor Court.  He also co-chaired Campbell’s Student Bar Association Honor Code Revision Committee, co-chaired the Prospective Student On-Campus Interview Program, competed in the Intramural Moot Court competition, finished as a semi-finalist in the local ABA Client Counseling competition, received the Book Award for Dean Willis P. Whichard’s “Judicial Process” course, graduated with a concentration in civil litigation, and was inducted into the national Order of Barristers.  He continues to volunteer with as many law school events and competitions as possible.

Outside the office, Bo may be found on area soccer fields officiating matches for the United States Soccer Federation, the N.C. High School Athletic Association and the NCAA, and has refereed more than a thousand matches since first becoming certified in 1992.  In May 2011 Bo was selected to officiate a North Carolina High School State Soccer Championship match hosted at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, North Carolina.  He and his wife look forward to annual gatherings of friends and family, Carolina sports, Italian cuisine, traveling on North Carolina’s Scenic Byways & Greenways, photography, and Historic Preservation. They also have a strong relationship with the UNC-Chapel Hill Children’s Hospital, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the North Carolina History Museum.
