Rodney E.
Pettey, who goes by Rod, was born in Poughkeepsie, NY in
1964. He moved to North Carolina with his parents in
1976 and has been a resident ever since. Mr. Pettey was
active in sports throughout high school and played
basketball at Bob Jones University. He graduated in
1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration and a minor in History. He then
attended Wake Forest University's School of Law where he was
a member of the National Trial Team. He graduated cum laude
from Wake Forest in 1990. From 1990 through 1991 he
clerked for the Honorable Eugene Gordon, Senior Resident
Judge for the United States District Court for the Middle
District of North Carolina. In 1991 Mr. Pettey accepted an
associate position with Yates, McLamb & Weyher, LLP where
his practice concentrated on insurance defense litigation.
In 1998 he became a partner in the firm where he continues
his practice in insurance defense.
Mr. Pettey has extensive
trial experience, having tried civil jury trials in both
state and federal court. He was recently selected as a
Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. His current practice involves
personal injury, construction and coverage litigation.
Mr. Pettey was named "North Carolina's Legal Elite" in
2006 in the area of Construction Litigation.
Mr. Pettey
lives in Raleigh with his wife Jocelyn and he has two
children, Kaitlyn and Megan. In his spare time, he enjoys
traveling, ACC sports and golf. Mr. Pettey is a partner in
the firm.
