Ryan Shuirman
grew up in Dover, Delaware and obtained his undergraduate
degree from the University of Virginia in 1996 and his law
degree from Wake Forest University in 1999. While in law
school, he participated in Moot Court and was a teaching
assistant in the legal writing and research program. He has
been with Yates, McLamb & Weyher, LLP since his admission to
the North Carolina State Bar in 1999, and currently
practices medical malpractice defense litigation. He
has represented physicians in specialties including
emergency medicine, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology,
neurology, anesthesiology, and pediatrics in addition to
representing hospitals throughout the State. His other
practice areas include representing pharmacists, lawyers,
builders, manufacturers, and property owners/managers, in
defending malpractice, product liability, defect, and injury
claims.
In 2008, Mr. Shuirman was
selected as one of North Carolina's "Legal Elite" in the
"Young Guns" category (for lawyers under 40 years old) as
published in Business North Carolina Magazine1.
Selection for this distinction is based on ballots sent to
every lawyer licensed by the State Bar living in North
Carolina.
In
addition to his memberships with the Defense Research
Institute, the North Carolina Association of Defense
Attorneys, and the North Carolina and Wake County Bar
Associations where he has served on the Swearing-In
Committee for new admittees to the bar, he has served as
a Bar Candidate Committee Chair for the North Carolina
Board of Law Examiners and volunteered as a mentor
attorney with the Capital Area Teen Court.
Since
2007, Mr. Shuirman has served as a Legislative Liaison
to the North Carolina Bar Association Litigation Section
tracking and analyzing proposed legislation impacting
litigators practicing in North Carolina. He has also
presented on defending medical malpractice cases for the
National Business Institute.
Mr. Shuirman, his wife
Danielle, and their son Elijah, live in Raleigh and
enjoy travel, ACC sports, Carolina Hurricanes hockey and
live music.
