RALEIGH, NC (January 1, 2011) — Yates, McLamb & Weyher (YMW) today announced Kathrine Fisher and Maria Papoulias Wood have been named partners of the Raleigh civil litigation law firm. Kathrine Fisher focuses her practice on personal injury, tort, medical malpractice defense and legal malpractice defense and has litigated matters in Superior Court districts across the state of North Carolina, as well as the North Carolina Industrial Commission and the Federal Courts of North Carolina. She has also handled numerous matters on appeal before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, North Carolina Supreme Court, the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and as counsel of record before the United States Supreme Court. Fisher is a 1991 graduate of Ohio State University and received her J.D. from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in 2001. Maria Papoulias Wood currently concentrates her practice in medical malpractice defense and nursing home liability defense. She has represented physicians and their practices in various specialties, including obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology, and orthopaedic surgery. Her representation of long-term care facilities includes both skilled nursing and assisted living facilities throughout the state and her representation of physicians includes not only litigation, but also matters before state licensing boards. She has argued in front of the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia. Wood’s appellate work has also included serving as amicus counsel for the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys in medical malpractice defense litigation. She received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998 and her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2001. |
